On the road from Anacortes, Washington to Cache Creek, British Columbia…
Oh, boy! Day 3 was an adventure! Going into Canada for the first time in a LONG time was an experience…
We crossed the border at Abbotsford, British Columbia. We were briefed by our Wagon Masters that they can ask you almost anything and their advice was just to be honest. We had been told by fellow Yumans that British Columbia is notorious for taxing any alcohol over your personal limit, so we left all of our wine in Yuma ;-( We also left all of our guns and ammo in California with the boys, as they have gun safes.
The border patrol personnel were polite, if a little humorless. They asked us about the alcohol, and fresh produce and guns. From our passports, they knew everything our government knows about us. Including how many guns we have registered. They asked us about every one of them, where they were and why they weren’t with us. When we told them, they asked us if we could provide pictures of them in the safes. Of course, we said yes, if they were willing to wait until someone got home from work. They were just being ridiculous. And they didn’t really go that far. I think they were looking to see if we squirmed.
Long story short, they pulled us over and proceeded to search every nick and cranny of the trailer. They even made us open our tiny safe. No guns to be found anywhere. They finally let us go, it really only took about 20 minutes, but it was frustrating.
Finally, off to our adventure! Canada sure is beautiful!
Our first night in Canada was at Cache Creek. The drive was amazing and the campground clean and quiet.
