A three hour tour… actually it was eight hours, and totally worth it!
And just what is a fjord? I have heard the term used about Scandinavia, but never about anything in North America… so I looked it up. From the interwebs:
Fjords are found in locations where current or past glaciation extended below current sea level. A fjord is formed when a glacier retreats, after carving its typical U-shaped valley, and the sea fills the resulting valley floor.
There must be zillions of them in Alaska!
First the tour went to Fox Island for lunch. Its a pretty little private island. They have cabins and such, too.
We then basically went around the bay, uh, I mean fjords. Lots of birds.
And a colony of sea lions.
Some MORE beautiful scenery.
And one particularly playful humpback whale!
