If you are ever in Stewart, BC…
If you have a couple of hours and if you have your passport, head west to Hyder, Alaska. Up the road (about 23 miles), back to British Columbia… at the end of the road, you will find Salmon Glacier. Its amazing really. The perspective is unusual. We were told this is the only glacier where you can look down on it from above, without getting into an airplane, helicopter or other such nonsense. Its big, really big. Pictures do NOT do it justice.
Oh, and about the passport. The US government, in its infinite wisdom, does not have a border checkpoint in Hyder. Funny thing is, Canada does. Even if you just go over to see the bears or the glacier, Canada checks you back in. Not too painful, but they make you aware, you aren’t in Kansas anymore.
