Days 37 – 41 ~ Homer, Alaska

This is going to be a long post! OK, just a lot of pictures, but still!

I can’t tell you that we did anything special in Homer. Visited a winery, did some touristy things. Drove around A LOT! Homer’s claim to fame is that its the Halibut Capital of the World. And it was Salmon season. We saw a lot of fishing. People were fishing on the beach and in the lagoon next to the RV park. We didn’t fish. I would much rather sit on the beach and read a book. Larry says he doesn’t want to be cold or wet.

I can’t put my finger on why, its nothing specific, but Homer is a special place. From the beach to the mountains, to the glaciers and the eagle in our backyard. Simply amazing. I can’t really call out any one day trip that stands out, it was just lots of little memories strung together. Special.

These first two pictures were actually taken on the drive from Seward to Homer.

These two pictures were taken from the top of hill, overlooking Homer.

This is the Homer Spit. There are a surprising number of businesses along the spit, a few RV parks, including ours. The left side of the spit (in this picture) is the rocky side. The other side is sandy, like a cold beach.

This little (actually scary big) fellow sat on the rocks right behind our campsite. He was hanging on the beach a little earlier and if it was my dog or my child nearby, I would have been worried.

The Salty Dawg. Apparently, it is a pretty famous place. IMHO, its just another dive bar, but there are $1 bills ALL OVER. Weird and it felt dirty and messy. But there is a cute gift shop in the back.

More pretty pictures of Homer!

And last, but not least… my toes in the sand. Its become a thing. In the Atlantic and in the Gulf of Mexico. In Hawaii, too. Now in the Cook Inlet in Alaska.
