What Can I Say About Kenai?
Hmmm, we didn’t do a lot in Kenai. There are two towns nearby, Kenai and Saldotna.
We visited the Elks Lodge, went out to dinner, Walmart and such. I found a great quilt shop in Kenai. I bought a pattern to make a fireweed wall hanging. The shop had all of the fabric exactly as specified in the kit. This is unusual, as it was an older pattern. In talking with the clerk, I found out the pattern designer also designed the fabric. Oh, and the clerk was the designer’s mother. And I had just missed the designer, she lives in the area! Can’t wait to make it!
The activity at the campground made up for the lack of other activities. They hosted a big campfire and we did s’mores. Yes, it was a REALLY big fire!
The campground is on a working farm, so they had goats and pigs, cows and horses, chickens and such. There were pig races and farm tours and a guided hike to the river.
We did go for a drive to Captain Cook State Recreation Area. Just more beautiful Alaska.
