Whipped Body Butter

Modified from Wellness Mama

I have made this several times and it turns out great every time (never with mango butter, so can’t speak to that). If you use cocoa butter in addition to the shea butter, you will get a strong sense of chocolate. Which is fine, unless that’s not what you want, then use 100% shea butter. I tried that once and did not like the consistency as well as a mix of shea and cocoa butters. I modified the recipe, adding a little corn starch (or arrowroot powder) to reduce the oily feel.

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa butter
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup light oil (like almond, jojoba, or olive)
  • 1 tbsp (give or take) corn starch or arrowroot powder
  • optional: 10-30 drops of essential oils of choice

In a double boiler or glass bowl, combine all ingredients except essential oils. Bring to medium heat and stir constantly until all ingredients are melted. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Add essential oils if using.

Move to fridge and let cool another hour or until starting to harden around the edges but still somewhat soft. Add the corn starch (arrowroot) and use a hand mixer to whip for 10 minutes until fluffy. Return to the fridge for 10-15 minutes to set.

Store in a glass jar with a lid and use as you would regular lotion or body butter. If your home stays above 75 degrees, it may soften and need to be kept at the fridge, but it will stay whipped at a temperature lower than that.
