From Watson Lake to Whitehorse, the Yukon.
I know its probably just the way my weird brain works, BUT… of all of the territories and provinces in Canada, there is only ONE that they call “the” anything. Its “THE YUKON”. Why isn’t it “the Quebec” or “the Ontario”? I just don’t get it. I guess its the same reason that in Southern California, all of the highways start with “THE”. In NorCal, directions will be something like “take 5 north to exit whatever”. In SoCal, its “take the 5 north…”. And it doesn’t matter if you are from NorCal or anywhere else, as soon as you get south of Bakersfield, you will start doing it too. Things that make you Hmmmmm!
Sorry, I digress. Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon and its population is about 25,000. The whole population of the Yukon is only about 36,000 brave, hearty souls. That leave 11,000 people to fill up the rest of the ginormous space. That is one thing we really notice in western Canada, NO traffic. Its awesome, actually.
So many things to do in Whitehorse… the big group event was a trip to Muktuk Adventures! Its a dog sled racing, vacationing, restaurant sort of place. We had a lecture about the founder of Muktuk and the history of dog sledding in Alaska. We also got to tour the place and meet and greet with the 130+ dogs. So much fun! I had no idea that the dogs were mutts. They cross-breed to get the best characteristics of different dogs. After the tour, they fed us dinner! Great salad with BC blueberries, arctic char, elk sausage and bison rib-eye. And maple-glazed carrots. Brownie sundaes for dessert. It was fabulous!
