Several years ago, my wonderful sister-in-law Vicki Buurkarl Gentry, gifted my husband and I a photo album of pictures of Larry’s father. Peter Schmidt Buurkarl kept a lot of photos from his time in the Army during World War II. Vicki put many of them in an album, along with notes, dates and such, from the back of all of the old photographs. It was a fabulous and meaningful gift.
As many already know, we downsized from our California bungalow to a 43 foot 5th wheel trailer. In order to conserve space, protect the fragile photos and preserve the memories, I took the album apart and scanned both the fronts and backs of the pictures and transcribed the notes. I hope I have done it justice and its something the entire family can enjoy. Click on any image below to launch the slideshow.
